The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), on Tuesday, told a Federal High Court in Abuja that a certificate linked to former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Geoffrey Nnanji, was not issued by the corps.

Nnanji, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the forthcoming Enugu State governorship election, is being prosecuted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for certificate forgery and money laundering, in charge number FHC/ABJ/CR/389/2026.

Testifying as the second prosecution witness before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, Yusuf Abubakar Jumare, Assistant Director in the Corps’ department of certification, said the department investigated at the ICPC’s request. He cited four features showing the document was not issued by the Corps.

The certificate number, purportedly from 1985, carries the prefix “A”, used only from 1990. The call-up number has four digits instead of five. It shows 13 months of service, not 12, and lacks the signature of the Director-General then serving.

Under cross-examination by Bode Olanikpekun, SAN, Jumare maintained his position but admitted he did not check whether Nnanji had ever been issued a certificate. Justice Abdulmalik adjourned until November 30 for continuation of cross-examination and January 29 for continuation of trial.
