Manchester City’s pursuit of another Premier League title suffered a blow on Saturday after they were forced to settle for a 1–1 draw against struggling West Ham United at the London Stadium.

The dropped points leave City trailing leaders Arsenal FC by nine points, increasing pressure on Pep Guardiola’s side as the title race enters a decisive stage. Although the champions still have a game in hand, their recent inconsistency has complicated their path to defending the crown.

City had taken the lead in the 31st minute through Bernardo Silva, whose looping delivery beat West Ham goalkeeper Mads Hermansen to put the visitors ahead.

However, the advantage lasted only four minutes. West Ham responded quickly when Konstantinos Mavropanos headed home from close range after City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma failed to deal with a corner delivered by Jarrod Bowen.

Despite dominating possession for long spells, City struggled to turn control into goals. The ongoing scoring drought of striker Erling Haaland who has scored just three times in his last 12 league matches again highlighted the attacking issues facing Guardiola’s side.

Guardiola, serving a touchline ban and watching from the stands, introduced substitutes including Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki in search of a winner, but West Ham held firm to secure a vital point.

The result lifted West Ham out of the relegation zone for the first time in months, while City now face a crucial run of matches that could determine whether their fading title hopes remain alive.
