The remains of late Mrs. Margaret Nwevi Ngene, popularly known as Mama Ashek, will be committed to mother earth on November 15, 2025 at her hometown, Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. A vigil will be held in her honour on November 14.

Mama Ashek, who joined the saints triumphant at the ripe age of 102 years, was born into the family of Obasi Nkwo and Ojevi Onu in 1923. Her father Obasi Nkwo hailed from Umuanegu kindred in Umuanum village while her mother was from Umuchima village.

Ogbo Nwevi, as she was also fondly called, was married to Prince Ngene Agwu of Umuobasi kindred in Umuanum village of Enu Uburu autonomous community. Prince Ngene was one of the sons of the first paramount ruler of old Uburu kingdom, Onyibe Ogbu Agwu Nwa Obasi.

Ogbo Nwevi was blessed with the fruit of the womb, males and  females. She was a kind and loving mother, who only wanted the best for her children. She was a mother to all as she always cared for every child that came across her.

She was highly supportive of her family as a micro trader. She perfected in groundnut processing so much so that no one else sold except if her stock was exhausted.

Her groundnut was nicknamed “Vuku Vuku Ogbo Nwevi” because of the high quality and supreme taste.

Ogbo Nwevi was a staunch Christian of the Assemblies of God Church denomination. She was a woman activist, and as a result, she belonged to the women association of her village of marriage.

Her son, Ashek, said: “My mother lived a peaceful and exemplary life. She was a unique person. She loved human beings so much, not just her family. She will be greatly missed because she was kind-hearted and was loved by everyone in the family and beyond. We take solace in the fact that her life was like a song worth singing.”
