Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has blamed the low turnout of voters in Adamawa State during yesterday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections on alleged irregularities witnessed in the February 23 presidential and National Assembly elections.
Speaking after voting in Ajia ward, Yola metropolis, the former Vice President said: “The low voter turnout witnessed in most polling units is as a result of the injustice meted on Nigerians in the last elections. Last election was marred by a lot of malpractices and irregularities, but Nigerians should however be patient because we are taking measures to address the situation. I particularly abhor the use of the military in elections; it is unconstitutional, unwelcome and all Nigerians need to come together to address the situation.”
On his part, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, who spoke after casting his vote in his polling unit, said that voters might be taking their time to come after witnessing the smooth conduct of the presidential election.
“The delayed turnout of voters in this unit is probably due to the seamless voting process enjoyed in the last voting. The system is running smoothly; it just took me between two to three minutes to get accredited and vote.
“Nigerians must not take voting lightly; it is a civic responsibility and every Nigerian must know that it is the only power that the common man has to decide who leads them and make laws on their behalf,” he said.
