Senior economist Paul Alaje of SPM Professionals has called for major reforms across Nigeria’s economy, emphasizing the need for significant improvements in energy, agriculture, and industrial output.
Paul Alaje made the statement on Channels TV Morning Brief, stressing that economic reforms should not be limited to select sectors but must reach areas where citizens can feel tangible benefits.
“The reform should not be limited to a few areas or a few sectors. If you are running a reformist system or government, we need to take it to the area where the people will feel the direct impact of all of these reforms,” he said.
He highlighted that industrial output reforms are essential to boost productivity and competitiveness, while energy sector reforms are critical to ensuring a reliable power supply that can drive growth across all sectors.

On agriculture, Alaje noted that reforms should enhance production, improve food security, and expand opportunities for farmers nationwide.
“We now need reforms in industrial output to target major improvements in output.
We need major reform in energy and, of course, major reform in agriculture. Reforms should not be limited to a few areas or a few sectors,” he added.
He said small, isolated reforms won’t be enough and called for a comprehensive approach that improves several sectors at once.
Alaje added that robust reforms are needed to boost economic growth, create jobs, and raise living standards, emphasizing that changes must directly benefit ordinary Nigerians.
