Chido Cargo and Logistics limited has threatened to sue the Managing Director of GUO group, Maduabuchukwu Okeke, in court for allegedly confiscating one of its trucks in Lagos.
The company said the court action came as a last resort as every appeal made to Okeke to release the truck failed.
Counsel to the company, Otogbolu Joseph had in a letter sighted by our reporter alleged that Mmaduabuchukwu Okeke, had on October 5, 2022 unlawfully locked up and detained a Mercedes Benz truck with registration number: KRD 680 YF in his Maza Maza office.
Speaking on the matter, the Managing Director of Chido Cargo Logistics, Chidozie Idoko said he decided to approach the court after it became obvious that Mmaduabuchukwu Okeke vowed never to release the truck.
He accused Okeke of arrogating the powers of the Nigeria Police Force and the court of law to himself, reiterating that all efforts he made to see him proved abortive.
The driver of the seized truck, Uche Ezeanochie also narrated what led to the seizure of the truck.
“I served the GUO for over twenty-five years and I never had an accident. But when the new management came on board, drivers started seeing hell, based on the way they are treating us, I decided to give up the job after reporting to the man who employed me.
“I later secured a job with Chido Cargo Logistics and on one of my trips to Lagos, having nothing at the back of my mind, I parked my truck at the office of GUO at Maza Maza.
“When I wanted to drive out on a fateful day, Maduaburochukwu, to my surprise, through Abada, ordered his Police personnel attached to him to close the gate and never allow my truck out. When I enquired what my offence was, I was told that I should go and do a proper handover of my former truck with GUO Motors.
“Then I will get cleared from one Mr. Chike, popularly known as Ogidi who is the manager in charge of trucks. He said that only after that, they will release my present truck”; the driver stated.
The driver said he had to travel to Onitsha where he paid N25,000 for a headlamp which was said to have been broken when he was working with the company. He said he is still confused as to why the director of GUO still refused to release the truck.
Chido Cargo Logistics through his Counsel are currently demanding the immediate release of the truck and N10 million in damages or Mmaduabuchukwu Okeke will face prosecution.
