The Lagos State Government said it would no longer allow car spotting on roads in the state.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab disclosed this in an X post on Tuesday.
Car spotting, a practice in which enthusiasts seek out, photograph or record rare, exotic and luxury vehicles, has become more rampant in Lagos in recent times.
However, there have been calls for its regulation, as critics say it is a form of harassment, encourages extortion, and poses a threat to public safety and security.
In June 2025, Pastor Paul Adefarasin of House on the Rock faced public backlash and a police probe after a viral video showed him appearing to pull a gun-like object on a car spotter filming his Range Rover in Lagos traffic.

Weighing in, Wahab said, “You can do your car spotting without constituting a nuisance or obstructing the road in any way.
“You are welcome to visit car lots and engage in your car-spotting activities there.
“However, staying on the road for this purpose will not be allowed in any way.
“Aside from being a nuisance, it is also a breach of privacy and will not be tolerated by the State Government.”
