Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have launched a manhunt for two suspected armed robbers after a resident bravely fought off masked intruders at his home along the NPA Express Road.
The incident, which occurred in the Charlisco area of Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of the state, took place in the early hours of Friday, September 4, 2026, at about 5:30am.
According to a statement by Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, two masked men armed with a locally made shotgun broke into the victim’s residence.
In a daring and courageous act of self-defence, the 48-year-old victim confronted the attackers and wrestled with the suspect wielding the weapon.
He said that during the physical struggle, the victim managed to overpower the gunman, causing the firearm to snap and break.
Seeing his accomplice disarmed, the second suspect struck the victim on the forehead and fled the scene after realising their weapon was destroyed and their mission compromised, abandoning the broken firearm behind.
The incident was formally reported at the Ekpan Police Division at about 6:14am, less than an hour after the attack.

Edafe said, “Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer immediately deployed operatives to the scene, where the locally made broken firearm was recovered.
Meanwhile, the injured victim was promptly referred to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment for the wound sustained to his forehead.
“The victim was referred to a hospital for treatment, while a manhunt for the fleeing suspects is ongoing,” he added.
Similarly, on September 6, 2026, at about 0500hrs, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit (SAKU), Ubulu-Uku, acting on credible intelligence, carried out a covert operation in Agbor and arrested Joy Anthony, aged 40, a suspected drug peddler.
“A search warrant was executed at her residence in Agbor-Obi, where quantities of Swinol, Tramadol, Codeine, Canadian Loud and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered. The suspect and exhibits are in police custody, while the investigation is ongoing”.
In his comment, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, commended the 48-year-old courageous man who fought off the suspected criminals, while assuring him that the suspects would be tracked down and arrested.
