Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe, Lamine Yamal and Lionel Messi headline the 30-player shortlist for the 2026 Ballon d’Or, with the race featuring several of football’s biggest names after a dramatic season.
Kane enters the contest as the leading contender after a prolific campaign with Bayern Munich. The England captain is seeking his first Ballon d’Or after previously earning seven nominations.
Yamal, meanwhile, enters the race after helping Spain win the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. The Barcelona forward, still only 19, has earned his third nomination and is regarded as one of the strongest challengers to Kane.
Mbappe is another leading contender following an impressive campaign with Real Madrid and a strong World Cup showing with France. The French forward has now been nominated nine times.
Spain’s World Cup triumph has also strengthened the country’s representation on the shortlist, with Rodri, Fabian Ruiz, Ferran Torres and Pau Cubarsi among the nominees.
Rodri, who won the World Cup Golden Ball, is seeking to reclaim the award after missing out last year because of injury. His nomination adds another major contender to an already competitive field.

Paris Saint-Germain, fresh from another Champions League triumph, also has a strong presence. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Ousmane Dembele, Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, Nuno Mendes, Joao Neves, Willian Pacho, Fabian Ruiz and Vitinha are among the nominees linked to the European champions.
Africa is represented by Senegal’s Sadio Mane and Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi. Hakimi is seeking recognition after helping PSG win the Champions League and Morocco claim the Africa Cup of Nations, while Mane’s nomination follows his contributions for Senegal.
The shortlist also includes England internationals Jude Bellingham, Erling Haaland, Bruno Fernandes, Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka, while Brazil’s Vinicius Junior and Argentina’s Lionel Messi remain in contention.
Messi, who has won the Ballon d’Or eight times, has received his 17th nomination after another influential World Cup campaign with Argentina. At 39, he remains one of the most decorated players in the history of the award.
