African technology, Interswitch has partnered with the Lagos State Government to launch a new digital Blood Inventory Management System (BIMS) and revamped Lagos State Blood Transfusion Committee (LSBTC) website. This milestone, achieved in June 2025, is part of the Lagos State Health Information Platform (Lagos SHIP), a broader digital initiative powered by Interswitch that aims to unify healthcare delivery across the state.
The platform is designed to streamline the entire blood management value chain ranging from donor registration and screening to inventory tracking and distribution. It provides real-time access to blood availability data for healthcare providers, blood banks, patients, and government officials, significantly improving supply coordination and enabling quicker, more informed decisions during emergencies.
Interswitch and its partners have delivered a secure, scalable, and interoperable system that integrates seamlessly with the larger Lagos SHIP ecosystem. This integration ensures centralised access to critical health data, enhancing collaboration and responsiveness across the health sector.
Managing Director of Digital Health Platforms at Interswitch, Mr. Olufemi Olapegba, who spoke about the significance of the new system stated: “At Interswitch, we are deeply committed to leveraging technology to solve real-life challenges in critical sectors, and health is a top priority. The launch of the LSBTC website and Blood Inventory Management System is a testament to how strategic innovation can enhance efficiency, transparency, and patient outcomes.
“By digitalising blood collection, screening, distribution, and transfusion processes, we are helping to create a more efficient, data-driven, and accountable healthcare framework that ultimately saves lives.”
The tech company disclosed that the initiative marks a major leap forward in the state’s efforts to modernise healthcare and improve patient outcomes. “It also reflects Interswitch’s growing investment in the health-tech space, which includes solutions for electronic medical records, digital claims processing, health financing, and health information exchange.
“By providing the digital infrastructure to support more inclusive and responsive healthcare systems, Interswitch continues to reinforce its role as a trusted technology partner to governments and institutions across Africa. The successful rollout of the LSBTC website and BIMS highlights the power of public-private collaboration and stands as a model for how innovation can transform critical public services.
“As Lagos State deepens its commitment to digital transformation, the new system sets the stage for improved access, equity, and quality in healthcare, with the potential to positively impact millions of lives.”
