Igboezuo, the pan-Igbo socio-cultural organisation, has congratulated Chief Chidi Anyaegbu on his nomination as ‘Mayor Ndigbo’ by the Igbo living in Lagos.
Leader of the group, Chief Tony Obinugwu, said that the nomination of Chief Anyaegbu is truly deserving, as he has for years served as a rallying figure for the Igbo living in Lagos and other Nigerian towns.
“We at Igboezuo are proud of Chief Chidi Anyaegbu, a proud son of Anambra and Nigeria for this honour by Ndigbo in Lagos. Ndigbo live all over the world and in Lagos where Chief Anyaegbu resides, he has been a rallying figure for Ndigbo, solving problems, empowering people, serving in various capacities and building inter-ethnic bridges which help to engender and sustain peace and development,” he said.
Chief Obinugwu said he hopes that this nomination will encourage Chief Anyaegbu to do more for Ndigbo and others, serving as a link between Ndigbo, the Governor of Lagos state, Mr Babajide Sanwolu, the government (states and federal), and the people of Lagos in matters concerning Ndigbo.
“Igboezuo promotes Igbo culture and we are committed to building sustainable and harmonious relationships with other ethnic groups and races. We believe that the nomination of Chief Anyaegbu as Mayor Ndigbo in Lagos will go a step further in sustaining Yoruba and Igbo relations which was tested during the 2023 elections. Some people have tried unsuccessfully to sow the embers of hate and discord in Igbo/Yoruba relations. Ndigbo are law-abiding and peace-loving people. We are good with our host communities and ask those who are trying to put a wedge in our peaceful co-existence to desist. We can only continue to develop our country in an atmosphere of mutual love, respect and understanding,” he said.
