Lagos arraigns 15 miscreants, 14 plead guilty

The Lagos State Government on Thursday arraigned 15 suspected miscreants before the Magistrate’s Court, Bolade, Oshodi following their arrest in Obalende area of the state for various offences.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab disclosed this in an X post.

The defendants include Afeez Raimi, Yusuf Aroba, Abdulazeez baoku (CS), Lateef Bello (CS), Ikechukwu Emeka, Ibrahim bakare (CS), Emmanuel Alfred (NG), Abdul Razak (CS) and Sikiru Quadri.

Others are Rehab Muhammed, Abass Isiaka, Muhammed Mamuda, Yezuru Abdullahi, Sahaada Isiak and Rilwan Hassan.

The commissioner said 14 of the defendants pleaded guilty in court, out of which four were given four hours community service while 10 were convicted and sentenced to one month in prison.

However, one of the defendants pleaded not guilty and his matter was adjourned to May 5, 2026 for trial.

SunOnline reports that the state government has ramped up enforcement action against touts, street urchins and beggars in recent months.

On January 26, the state government said it arrested 115 street beggars and secured the conviction of 26 members of the notorious “Omotaku” group during coordinated enforcement exercises carried out by relevant government agencies across the state.
