The Labour Party (LP), Benue State chapter, has concluded its congresses with the state congress held on Saturday.

By affirmation, the congress produced a 24-member State Working Committee (SWC), with Mr William Ochonu and Spencer Atikpo as Chairman and Secretary, respectively.

Inaugurating the SWC, the Sub-Committee Chairman of Labour Party Congresses for Benue State, Chief John Ochoga, said the National Chairman, Sen. Nenadi Usman, commissioned him to ensure seamless congresses in Benue State.

Judging all the congresses—ward, local government, and state—as successful, he stated that he was inaugurating and endorsing the officers for the recovery and takeover of Benue State.

Ochoga said: “We will not labour in vain. We will take over Government House in Benue state. The Benue people will never labour in vain again. The Bible said a labourer deserves his wages, and we are here to ensure that.”

“Today I declare that the Labour Party National Chairman, Sen. Nenadi Usman has given the mandate that we take over Benue State. So we will be making sure of that,” he said.

The Congress Sub-Committee Chairman acknowledged the House of Representatives member representing Enone Federal Constituency, comprising Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo, as the leader of the party in the state, saying the onus is now on Enone constituents to give him their votes once again to return him to the House of Representatives to continue to make them and Nigeria proud.

He commended the State Working Committee for successfully holding the congresses in the state and urged them to keep up the tempo.

Rising from the congress, the House of Representatives member representing Enone Federal Constituency, Philip Agbese, congratulated the SWC for its resounding victory and the party for entrusting them with leadership to lead the party to the promised land.

He pledged to support the new leadership to enable them to take the party to the next level, saying: “For us in Labour Party, it’s about partnership. We will support the party with everything that will ensure that we take over Benue come 2027.”

Agbese stated that by the next congress, the Labour Party would be standing at the podium with at least 10 members of the National Assembly.

The Assistant National Youth Leader (North Central), Dr Graham Gande, expressed confidence that the new EXCO of the Labour Party in Benue would ensure it achieves victory come 2027. Gande said: “I am grateful that today Labour Party has shown that it is in Benue and it is strong. With this EXCO, we are taking off towards 2027 and we have a lot of work ahead of us. So I congratulate and welcome the EXCO, urging them to work hard to deliver the party at the polls.”

Accepting the election, the Labour Party Chairman, William Ochonu, appreciated the party for the confidence reposed in him and his EXCO members, pledging to do their work with due diligence to deliver the party at the polls.

Ochonu said: “On behalf of myself and members, I thank you for the honour and with willingness, we genuinely accept the responsibility given to us. We will not disappoint you, we will work in harmony and love for the party and in 2027, the result will speak for itself.”

Ochonu said they would be faithful and, as committed servants, would join hands with the people to build the party, saying: “Today is a moment of renewed purpose, a moment to reflect on where we have come from as a family, where we stand and more importantly, to chart a clear and courageous way forward.”
