Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has postponed his planned defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) that was scheduled to hold on Wednesday, in solidarity with the families of abducted schoolchildren in Kebbi State.
Governor Kefas made the announcement on Tuesday evening while addressing journalists.
The governor said that the nation is in mourning, and so it would be insensitive for him to anchor a celebration in the state.
“In the light of the deeply troubling incident involving the kidnapping of innocent schoolchildren in Kebbi State, I have taken the solemn decision to postpone my scheduled declaration and movement to the All Progressives Congress.

“At a moment when our nation is once again confronted with the painful reality of insecurity, solidarity and compassion must rise above politics. The safety of our children, the most vulnerable and precious members of our society, is far more important than any political activity or ceremony.
“Today, my heart goes out to the families of the children and the people and government of Kebbi State, and to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Tinubu. As a father, leader, and governor whose administration has prioritised security, education, and protection of the vulnerable, I believe it is morally right and responsible to postpone any political events until the situation is deemed to be under control.
“This is not a time for celebration. It is time for reflection, prayer, and a time for unity and collective action. I call on all security agencies to intensify efforts to ensure that the children are safely rescued and returned to their families,” he said.
