Jimoh Ibrahim has been formally received and accredited by António Guterres as Nigeria’s permanent representative to the United Nations (UN), despite mounting criticism surrounding his nomination.
Ibrahim presented his letter of credence on Monday, officially commencing his diplomatic posting.
His accreditation follows the issuance of his credentials by Nigeria’s foreign ministry on April 1, clearing him to assume duties.

In a statement by Temitope Ajayi, media aide to Bola Tinubu, Jimoh Ibrahim assured the UN and the international community of the administration’s commitment to addressing Nigeria’s long-standing challenges, while also seeking global cooperation.
However, his appointment has drawn backlash from civil society organisations, which have raised concerns over alleged graft litigation.
The groups petitioned both Tinubu and Guterres, urging a review of the nomination, describing it as a matter of significant national and international consequence.
