Inter Milan have reportedly reached an agreement with Liverpool to sign midfielder Curtis Jones in a deal worth up to €35m, including bonuses and add-ons.
The Liverpool academy graduate, who has spent 16 years at the club, is set to leave Anfield after Inter intensified their pursuit of the England midfielder, according to reports from Fabrizio Romano, Matteo Moretto and Gianluca Di Marzio.
Di Marzio reports that the two clubs remain in contact to settle the final details of the transfer, with the deal expected to be completed in the coming days. The Italian journalist puts the proposed package at a €32m fixed fee, with a further €4m available in add-ons.
Jones has been a long-term target for Inter, who also explored the possibility of signing the midfielder during the January transfer window. The Nerazzurri have now moved closer to securing his services on a permanent basis.
The 25-year-old is entering the final 12 months of his Liverpool contract, meaning the club risk losing him for nothing next summer if he does not agree to a new deal. His impending contract situation has therefore increased the significance of Inter’s offer.
Earlier reports suggested that Inter were prepared to pay around €30m for Jones. However, the latest reports indicate that the clubs have agreed on a package worth approximately €35m once the potential bonuses and add-ons are included.
Jones is expected to add further depth and versatility to an Inter midfield that already features Nicolo Barella, Hakan Calhanoglu, Petar Sucic, Piotr Zielinski, Aleksandar Stankovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Andy Diouf.
If the remaining details are concluded as expected, Jones will bring an end to his lengthy association with Liverpool, having progressed through the club’s academy and established himself in the first team.
