The race for the Bende Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections has gained momentum following the formal launch of the campaign of businessman and politician, Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso.
Anyaso is seeking to unseat the incumbent lawmaker representing the constituency and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu.
At the campaign launch, Anyaso said his agenda would focus on job creation, infrastructure development, healthcare, agriculture, youth empowerment and improved engagement with communities across the constituency.
He said his decision to contest was driven by the need for representation that responds to the concerns and priorities of residents.
“This campaign is about the future of Bende. It is about our farmers, our young people, our mothers, our entrepreneurs, our professionals and every community that deserves to feel the impact of representation,” Anyaso said.
He added that the effectiveness of representation should be measured by its impact on constituents and the ability to attract opportunities and development to the area.
According to him, consultations across Bende had highlighted concerns including employment, agriculture, roads, healthcare and access to economic opportunities.
Anyaso said, if elected, he would advocate for initiatives aimed at supporting farmers, traders, artisans, entrepreneurs and small businesses, while seeking federal programmes and investments for the constituency.

“Our young people should not have to leave their communities because there are no opportunities. We must deliberately create the conditions that allow enterprise, agriculture, innovation and skills to thrive within Bende,” he said.
The candidate also pointed to his previous involvement in community initiatives and said his campaign would include engagements with different groups and communities across the constituency.
The contest is expected to attract attention in Abia State, with Kalu bringing the advantage of incumbency and his position as Deputy Speaker, while Anyaso is expected to campaign on his community engagement and political network.
Anyaso also said he would support initiatives aimed at complementing development efforts in Abia State, adding that effective representation should help attract federal programmes, resources and partnerships to Bende.
“Politics must ultimately translate into development. Our communities need roads, jobs, better healthcare, support for agriculture, opportunities for young people and a stronger voice. These are the issues that should define this election,” he said.
As political activities ahead of the 2027 elections intensify, the Bende Federal Constituency contest is expected to become one of the closely watched races in Abia State.
Anyaso called for an issue-based campaign and urged voters to assess candidates based on their records, competence, accessibility and plans for the constituency.
“This must not become a campaign of insults or bitterness. Let every candidate present his record, his ideas and his plans, and let the people of Bende decide the future they want,” he said.
