The Chief Executive Officer of UpdateAfrika Communications, Dr Joseph Effiong
has decried rising spate of insecurity in the country, noting that tension in the country required pragmatic actions beyond rhetorics and empty talk.
The media entrepreneur referred particularly to the free reign of kidnappers in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory despite its security strength,stating that such was sending a bad signal to other states of the federation.
Abuja has recorded no fewer than 15 kidnappings since the beginning of 2024, rapidly swelling up an already overstretched figure of menace across the country over the years.
This is in addition to other security challenges plaguing the country including, banditry, armed robbery, Fulani-Herders farmers clashes and militancy, amongst others.
in a statement titled, ” Public Letter to the President “, Effiong worried that beyond lost lives, the anomaly was blackening the country’s reputation and also threatful to Nigeria’s fragile economy.
He advised Nigeria’s security team to direct focus and resources to intelligence and also harness new technologies in preventing and fighting crime.
Acknowledging efforts of present administration to improve the lots of Nigerians, Effiong said that such moves were already defeated by incessant pains of insecurity.
“We understand the complexity and challenges of addressing such multifaceted issues; however, the time has come for concrete step that will re-assess, revitalize, and reinforce existing security strategies to achieve tangible results.
“The time to act is now, as further delay can only exacerbate the situation and deepen the disillusionment felt by the Nigerian people”, he maintained.
He pleaded with citizens to join hands with government and security forces to stem the tide of criminality, noting that a collaborative approach remained sacrosanct.
“We fervently pray for wisdom and guidance for the President in addressing pressing issues and rejuvenating Nigeria’s security apparatus. Together, we can reclaim the peace and security that Nigerians so desperately seek.”
