Bishop of Keffi-Karshi Missionary Diocese, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Rt. Rev. Paul Dajur, has called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts in addressing the country’s security challenges.
Dajur made the call during the inauguration of the Mararaba Gurku Archdeaconry at St. Paul’s Church, Mararaba, and the installation of Canon Anayo Okonkwo as its first Supervisory Priest, yesterday.
The bishop urged the government to prioritise the safety of lives and property, noting that while some efforts were being made, there was a pressing need for improved modalities to address insecurity.
”The government should not play with the security of Nigerians. Our government is trying but I think they can do better.
“They need to go back to the drawing board and look at what they can do; I believe God has given Nigeria the capacity to curtail insecurity,” he said.
Addressing other national issues, the cleric decried the persistent power outages across the country.
He also expressed concern over the hike in fuel prices and called for a reduction to make the product affordable for the masses.
Dajur encouraged Nigerians to embrace agriculture but warned that a food crisis was inevitable if farmers could access their land safely.
”Government must provide security because without it people cannot farm, and there may be a food crisis,” he added.
Admonishing the newly installed Okonkwo, the bishop cautioned against viewing the position as a mere title or for personal recognition.
According to him, the new status carries enormous responsibilities and engagements.
Chairman of the Inauguration Planning Committee, Mr. Azubuike Offor, described the creation of the new Archdeaconry as an uphill task.
He said it required the collective prayers and support of the parishioners for the new priest for it to thrive.
