…Clears 14 political associations seeking registration, expresses readiness for Anambra guber poll

The interim chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), May Agbamuche-Mbu, has promised to deepen democracy through inclusive, transparent, and credible electoral processes.
Mrs Mbu, who gave the assurance while presiding over a quarterly consultative meeting with the leaders of the registered political parties at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, told them that the electoral umpire is looking forward to their contributions to the improvement of the electoral process in the country.
She revealed that out of the total of 171 associations requesting registration as political parties, 14 of them have met the requirements to proceed to the next stage of the registration process.
While expressing readiness to conduct a successful governorship in Anambra State next month, she disclosed that the commission is working assiduously and making arrangements for its successful conduct, disclosing that it has been holding a series of meetings with the Security Agencies at the national, state, and Local Government levels.
Mrs Agbamuche also confirmed that all non-sensitive materials for the election have been delivered to the State and Voter Education, in addition to an ongoing sensitisation.
Ending her remarks during the meeting, she said: “Once again, it is my pleasure to welcome you all to this quarterly meeting, and we look forward to your contributions to the improvement of the electoral process in Nigeria. On the part of the commission, I wish to assure you of our commitment to deepening democracy through inclusive, transparent, and credible electoral processes.”

In her update on next month’s Anambra governorship election, Mrs. Mbu said: “In less than a month, precisely November 8, 2025, the Anambra governorship election will be held. The timetable and schedule of activities for the Anambra State Governorship Election details 13 key activities to be carried out by the Commission. I am glad to inform you that the commission has completed 10 of these activities.
“The outstanding activities are: the publication of Notice of Poll slated for October 25, 2025, the Last day for campaigns –November 6, 2025, and the date of the Election –November 8, 2025. The commission is committed to keeping strictly to the remaining activities. Political parties are therefore called upon to be mindful of the last day for campaigns and keep strictly to it.
“The commission has been working assiduously and making arrangements for the successful conduct of the Anambra governorship election and has had several engagements with the security agencies at national, state, and LGA levels. All non-sensitive materials for the Election have been delivered to the State and Voter Education and sensitisation is ongoing,” she announced.
On the registration of associations into political parties, Mrs. Mbu said: “As you are aware, the commission received a total of 171 requests for registration of political parties. Each request was assessed based on its compliance with the provisions of Section 222 of the Constitution of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), Section 79 (1,2, and 4) of the Electoral Act, 2022, and Clause 2 of the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties, 2022.
“Out of the total number of applications received, 14 associations have met the requirements to proceed to the next stage. These details have also been published on our website,” she announced.
