Imo North senatorial supplementary poll holds Thursday

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed July 28, for the conclusion of the  Imo North (Okigwe) re-run polls, which was declared inconclusive last week Saturday.
In a  statement signed by Mr. Adelani Asade on behalf of the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Nasiru Ayilara said the supplementary election will be held in 15 polling units in  Isiala Mbano State Constituency of Imo North and Oru East State Constituency  for the state  House of Assembly .
“You are by this notice enjoined to visit INEC office, Owerri on Monday,  July 25, 2016 to collect the details of the affected polling units and registration areas,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Athan Achonu has alleged that the results of the senatorial re-run polls was doctored. He insisted  that he won the election with a wide margin and even defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate,  Benjamin Uwajumogu in Obowo. He maintained that declaring the election inconclusive by INEC was uncalled for as he ought to have been declared the winner.
Achonu who addressed newsmen yesterday at the state party’s secretariat in Owerri said there were no collation officers as at the time the election was completed .
According to him, “the elections were free and fair but the results announced did not reflect the actual voting.  Achonu said he already had the real results announced at the polling units after the conclusion of voting. “Nigeria has grown beyond this kind of crude politics. We are witnesses that the PDP conducted an election where the opposition party won.”
“All the PDP agents were never allowed at the collation centre. So, INEC should release the real results not the ones given to them.,” he said.
