The President of Indigenous Igbo Youth Congress (IIYC), Chief Mayor Echefu has said that the recently conducted governorship election in Imo State has shown that the country still has a long way in embracing democratic values.

“What happened in Imo on that election was better imagined. The attitude of the security agencies was very shameful. How can security men in uniform, which is the pride of the nation be aiding and abetting electoral fraud? Echefu quipped.

“Many people had though that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would have used the off season election to redeemed its poor image arising from its conduct of the February presidential election, but like the leopard that cannot wash off its spots, the electoral umpire has shown that it is irredeemable.

“ If the INEC is clean, why is it frustrating the opposition parties from having access to the BVAS?”

The IIYC leader also implored the leadership of the Afenifere to caution the APC leaders in Lagos to halt the demolition of properties owned by the Igbo in the state.

According to him, it’s not the Yoruba that are demolishing the said properties, but the APC in the state, adding that, “it is still the outcome of last presidential election, where both progressive Yoruba, Igbo and others teamed up to vote against President Bola Tinubu because they wanted something good for the country.

“It started after the presidential election when armed APC thugs started attacking the Igbo during the governorship election.

“Until now, there is no notable Igbo APC chieftain that has condemned the unruly activities of his party men towards the Igbo in Lagos. We are condemning it and calling on the world bodies to look into what the leadership of APC is doing against the Igbo race in Lagos.”
