Oweilaemi Roland Pereotubo, Special Adviser to the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, has expressed his full support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s appointment of Chief Dennis Otuaro as the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP).

Pereotubo, a former President of the Ijaw Youth Council, praised Otuaro’s capacity to deliver on the PAP’s mandate, citing his track record as a student leader and his involvement in the Niger Delta emancipation struggle. He condemned protests against Otuaro’s appointment, urging stakeholders to support him in his new role.

“I have known Dr. Otuaro for many decades,” Pereotubo stated. “His capacity to deliver the mandates in that office is not in doubt. Right from the days we were students at the universities, Dennis Otuaro has not disappointed his followers in public governance.”

He highlighted Otuaro’s impressive track record as the National President of Izon-ebe Students, worldwide, and his participation in the Niger Delta emancipation struggle. He described Otuaro as a “grassroots-oriented man who commands millions of followers in the Niger Delta region.”

Pereotubo emphasized Otuaro’s involvement in the establishment of the Amnesty Programme in 2009 and his membership in the Ijaw Youth Leadership Forum (IYLF) and the Oporoza House. He described Otuaro as a multi-faceted individual with academic, entrepreneurial, and charismatic leadership qualities.

“Dr. Otuaro ventured into the Niger Delta struggle from the classroom as a student unionist,” Pereotubo explained. “After graduation, he joined the Ijaw Youth Leadership Forum, a collection of the foremost youth leaders in the region to champion the Niger Delta course.”

He highlighted Otuaro’s role in the Niger Delta crisis from 2006 to 2009 and his contribution to the establishment of the Presidential Amnesty Programme. He described Otuaro as a leader who understands the region’s peculiarities and the struggle for peace and tranquillity.

“There’s no mention of Niger Delta region without Dennis Otuaro’s name mentioned as the ambassador of peace and harmony which has made the oil sector to enjoy the relative peace in the region,” Pereotubo stated.

He expressed confidence that Otuaro’s appointment would stabilize the oil sector and further solidify peace in the region. He praised President Tinubu’s decision to appoint Otuaro, describing him as the right person for the job.

Pereotubo condemned the protests against Otuaro’s appointment, calling them “baseless and misconceived.” He urged stakeholders to accept the appointment and support Otuaro in his new role.

“Power is transient,” he concluded. “Let’s support him now to achieve his set objectives in that office. Tomorrow, it may come to another’s turn. We can’t move forward as a region if we cannot eschew this pull-him-down syndrome. Let’s give Chief Dennis Otuaro the needed chance and support to pilot the affairs of the office. We cannot achieve meaningful development if we don’t stop these infightings.”
