Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, alongside the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and other security stakeholders, have reinforced the call for sustained, collective efforts to tackle insecurity at all levels.

The renewed focus came during the 15th anniversary event of the Abuja chapter of the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS), held in Abuja , yesterday , under the theme: “United in Resilience: Forging Public-Private Partnership to Protect.”

Represented by Assistant Inspector-General of Police ( AIG),Adeboye Hamza,  Egbetokun emphasised the importance of a comprehensive societal approach in crime prevention.

“This is an era of a whole-of-society approach. And that is why you see that the Nigeria Police Force has been at the forefront of propagating community policing. That is a movement from government protect to everyone protect,” he said.

He further highlighted the vital role of civil society and private security organizations in complementing government efforts, adding, “The civil society, private security organizations have a lot to contribute. The government and its agencies cannot do it alone.”

Director of the Department of Security Services for the FCTA, Adamu Gwary, represented by Secretary of the Command and Control Centre, Peter Olumiji, assured that the administration remains steadfast in its fight against vandalism across the territory.

He noted the ongoing efforts to give special attention to communities housing critical infrastructure, stating, “Part of the measures the FCT administration is taking against the fight against vandalism is the collaboration with the private security sectors, where you have the vigilante group of Nigeria, you have the hunters, you also have the private security companies which normally is called the PGCs.”

Highlighting the growth of ASIS Abuja chapter 273, Chairman, Edward Orim, reflected on the organisation’s mission to promote security excellence and foster professional collaboration.

“We are particularly delighted to organise the symposium as a powerful reminder that when it comes to national security, collaboration is not optional. It is essential,” Orim remarked.

He added that the chapter has facilitated knowledge exchange, capacity building, and strengthened ties between security professionals and government agencies, aligning with global ASIS standards ,while responding to Nigeria’s security realities.
