Igbinedion University, Okada, has partnered with EduTech Global to expand digital learning and make its academic programmes accessible to more students beyond the university’s physical campus.
Under the partnership, EduTech Global will provide digital learning infrastructure and technology support for the university’s Distance Learning Centre (DLC), allowing students to access university education remotely.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen the university’s digital education system, improve the efficiency of its distance learning operations and create new opportunities for students across Nigeria.
Vice-Chancellor of Igbinedion University, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, said the partnership marked a major step in the institution’s drive to produce graduates capable of making an impact in Nigeria and globally.
“At Igbinedion University, our mandate has always been to lead in producing graduates equipped for national and global impact. This partnership with EduTech Global represents a bold step into the future of higher education in Nigeria,” he said.
Ezemonye added that expanding the university’s digital learning infrastructure would help remove geographical barriers to education while supporting national workforce development.
“By expanding our digital learning infrastructure, we are not just breaking down geographical barriers; we are actively contributing to national workforce development by ensuring that quality, industry-aligned education is accessible to every driven learner, regardless of location,” he said.
The Director of the Igbinedion University Distance Learning Centre, Prof. Gideon Bawa, said the partnership would help the university move away from largely manual processes and establish a more efficient and scalable distance learning system.
He said the growth recorded by institutions using EduTech’s technology and expertise influenced the university’s decision to enter the partnership.
“We are confident that this partnership will position Igbinedion University to achieve significant growth in enrolment while strengthening the quality and efficiency of our Distance Learning Centre,” Bawa said.
He added that most administrative and academic activities at the centre would be moved online through EduTech’s platform.
“With this partnership, we expect to move most of our administrative and academic activities online through EduTech. This will improve efficiency, enhance the learner experience and allow our facilitators and students to engage more effectively through a connected digital learning environment,” he said.
Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of EduTech Global, Femi Shonubi, said technology was changing the boundaries of what universities could offer, stressing that digital education should go beyond simply putting courses online.
“Technology’s true value lies in its ability to drive tangible socio-economic impact through education. By dismantling physical boundaries, we are empowering institutions like Igbinedion University to democratise access to high-quality learning,” Shonubi said.
He said EduTech was helping institutions build connected learning systems covering the student journey from application and enrolment to learning, assessment and graduation.
General Manager, EduTech Global, Moyosore Asubiojo, said the partnership was coming at a time of growing demand for flexible higher education among working professionals, entrepreneurs and other learners seeking alternatives to traditional full-time campus education.
She said the combination of Igbinedion University’s academic expertise and EduTech’s technology capabilities would create new pathways to quality education and workforce development.
The partnership is also expected to enable Igbinedion University to extend its reach beyond its traditional geographical footprint and compete more effectively in the growing technology-driven higher education market.
The collaboration reflects the increasing adoption of digital learning models by higher institutions seeking to make education more accessible, flexible and scalable while meeting the changing needs of students and employers.
