Additional military bases will be established and stationed in security-threatened local government areas of Kano State.
The Kano State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mohammed Taju Usman, disclosed this during a press conference held in Kano on Tuesday.
He explained that the decision was reaffirmed during a recent meeting between Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the chairmen of the 44 Local Government Areas.
According to him, the initiative had been discussed and agreed upon by the Governor and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), adding that, when implemented, the military bases would complement the existing security architecture in the affected LGAs.

“The initiative is intended to strengthen security, improve rapid response to threats, protect communities and enhance lives and property across the affected Local Government Areas,” he declared.
Daily Sun reports that some of the border LGAs repeatedly flagged for kidnapping, banditry and cattle rustling include Shanono, Bagwai and Tsanyawa LGAs, among others.
Speaking further, Mohammed Taju Usman explained that the state government had approved the installation of solar-powered street lights in each of the 44 LGAs in the state, adding that the initiative would improve public lighting, enhance security and support sustainable development across the state.
He further disclosed the intention of the state government to establish electric vehicle charging points at strategic locations within the state capital, expressing optimism that the scope of the pilot project would be expanded in due course.
