Commissioner of Police in charge of Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU), Lagos, Kayode Ojapinwa, has charged officers to apply professionalism to investigate and prosecute fraud perpetrators: “My vision is to tackle the challenges faced by police investigators.

“It is to ensure that this unit is   repositioned to continue actualising its mandate of investigating, prosecuting serious and complex cases of fraud. The police special unit is a leading natural professional and unit that must be dynamic, robust and efficient in its duties of investigating, prosecuting fraud perpetrators, and recovery of proceeds of fraud.

“Police operative units arrested a cyberbullying syndicate for offences bordering on defamation, character assassination, demanding N10 million with threats to release their victim’s nude photographs to the public if she failed to comply.

“A suspect was arrested for allegedly converting N90 million company funds to personal use. The suspect was arraigned before the Federal High Court, Lagos, for the offence bordering on conspiracy and money laundering.

“We teach officers the modus operandi of police investigations and build human capacity in the training of PSFU personnel. I have reminded them of their commitment to professionalism, zero tolerance for corruption and abuse of human rights. Officers should always operate within the ambit of relevance.

“We conduct investigations excellently at PSFU. We have handled a lot of profile cases. We always have good results at the end of the day. Officers’ code of dressing will portray the image of the Nigeria Police and PSFU.

“The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Egbetokun, warned officers to be disciplined, professional and respect the fundamental rights of members of the public. Officers should conduct themselves with decorum and alertness. They have to configure the security architecture in their areas of responsibility to ensure relationship adequate security.

“Relationship officers are advised to take community policing with all seriousness. To have good relationship with the members of the public and build confidence, they should be friendly.”
