The Healthcare Federation of Nigeria (HFN) commends President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration for the landmark approval and rollout of affordable kidney dialysis treatment across federal medical centers and teaching hospitals nationwide.
This decisive intervention, which reduces the cost of dialysis sessions from as high as ₦50,000 to ₦12,000 in designated facilities, represents a significant step in alleviating the financial burden on Nigerians living with kidney disease. It directly aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda’s commitment to expanding access to essential healthcare and addressing the nation’s rising burden of non-communicable diseases.
HFN recognizes the courage and responsiveness demonstrated by the Federal Government in prioritizing kidney health—a challenge that affects tens of thousands of Nigerians who require life-sustaining dialysis multiple times weekly. By subsidizing treatment, the government will not only save countless families from catastrophic expenses but also offer renewed hope for improved survival outcomes and reduced treatment abandonment.
Njide Ndili, President of the Healthcare Federation of Nigeria (HFN), stated:
“This bold intervention by the Federal Government brings much-needed relief to thousands of Nigerians living with kidney disease. It is not only life-saving but also a clear demonstration of the administration’s commitment to making healthcare more accessible and equitable. At HFN, we see this as a pivotal moment to strengthen collaboration between the public and private sectors. We stand ready to partner with the government in ensuring the sustainability of this subsidy, while driving innovation and improving outcomes for patients nationwide.”

As an umbrella body of private sector stakeholders in Nigeria’s health system, HFN particularly welcomes this initiative as an opportunity to deepen public–private sector collaboration. The Federation believes that lasting impact will be achieved when both sectors pool resources, expertise, and innovation to expand access, improve service quality, and ensure sustainability.
HFN further encourages the timely release of designated funds, transparent implementation, and structured engagement with private sector providers to ensure the subsidy translates into tangible relief across all federal facilities and beyond.
As part of its mandate, the Healthcare Federation of Nigeria will continue to advocate for policies that enable a stronger health system, foster sustainable financing, and integrate private sector innovation into national health priorities—ensuring inclusive, equitable, and accessible healthcare for all Nigerians.
