There is disquiet among top civil servants in Niger State as they are grumbling following the amount of money given to them as mobilisation of voters for tomorrow governorship and House of Assembly elections.
Each director and permanent secretary was given N30,000 and N50,000 respectively to enable them to move to their various communities to woo voters for the governorship and House of Assembly elections.
The commissioners were however given N10million each, N5million less than what they were given during the presidential and National Assembly elections two weeks ago to woo the electorate.
However, our correspondent gathered from a very reliable source close to the office of the Head of Service that supervised the disbursement of funds that the amount given to the top civil servants did not go down well with them.
The directors and the permanent secretaries who were invited to the Head of Service’s office through a text message, the content which reads “message from office of Head of Service; you are invited to the Account Department of the office of the Head of Service for a token now,” were however, surprised when the cashier handed “the token” to them.
They wondered what the government wanted them to do with the amount and therefore vowed not to leave their houses as the money, they said would not even fuel their cars not to talk of mobilising the voters.
“I wondered what they want us to do with this money. This money can not do anything except that they want us to collect the money and sit down at home,” a director who did not want his name in print disclosed.
“We got a text message directing us to go to Head of Service’s office and see the accountant for a token, but we were surprised that the cashier gave us N30,000 each while permanent secretaries got N50,000.”
The decision by the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) government in the state to mobilise the top civil servants was linked with feelers from the 25 local government areas of the state of possible electoral shock on Saturday.
The government had in the last five days, played host to various groups in an attempt to woo them ahead of the election to ensure total victory for the party.
The organised labour, students union, road transport workers, cultural groups among others, have been trooping into the Government House, Minna, to express their solidarity to the governor ahead of the election.
