A coalition of pro democracy groups, under the auspices of Youth Awake Now (YAN), has condemned the attack on Labour Party (LP) members in Lagos State last weekend.
YAN leadership made the condemnation at a press conference in Lagos, on Monday, to unveil their plan to tackle political violence during the forthcoming polls.
Addressing the press, the coalition leader, Eric Oluwole, said one of the objectives of the group was to mobilise Nigerians against violence before, during and after the election. Oluwole said it was high time Nigerian youths spoke with one voice, irrespective of their socio-economic, ethnic, religious or political backgrounds.
The coalition said the youths needed to be alive to their responsibilities, by thoroughly engaging the manifestos of each of the presidential candidates for proper scrutiny, to enable them to be well informed, and use the information gathered to influence who they would vote for.
Oluwole said the youths constitute the largest number of the Nigerian electorate, and they have the right to cast their votes for candidates of their choice.
“There is the need now to thoroughly engage the manifestoes of the presidential candidates for proper scrutiny, to enable the well informed youths, who constituted the largest number of Nigeria electorate, to know who to cast their votes for,” he said.
