… Calls it act of insubordination
From Abel Leonard, Lafia
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has cautioned government appointees against engaging in early political campaigns ahead of the 2027 general election, describing such activities as an act of insubordination.
Speaking during a media briefing in Lafia on Wednesday Governor Sule speaking through his Senior Special Adviser on public Affairs Comrade Peter Ahemba emphasized that his administration remains focused on governance and the delivery of democratic dividends, warning against distractions from political maneuvering.
“It is unfortunate that some government appointees are already engaging in meetings and consultations regarding the 2027 elections. I have said it repeatedly—this is a distraction, and I will not tolerate it. We have a mandate to serve the people, and that is where our focus should be,” the governor stated.
He further stressed that any government official found prioritizing political campaigns over governance would face consequences.
In another development, the governor addressed concerns over the alleged illegal recruitment of 3,000 teachers by the previous management of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). He confirmed that a committee had been constituted to investigate the matter, leading to the dissolution of the former commission’s leadership.
“After a thorough investigation, the management of the TSC was dissolved, and a new team has been appointed. They have resumed duties and are working to rectify the past anomalies,” Governor Sule said.
He added that a fresh screening exercise would be conducted, and out of the 3,000 teachers recruited, only 1,500 who meet the required qualifications would be retained.
On security matters, Governor Sule reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property. He disclosed that the state has a full-fledged Commissioner for Security, Usman Baba, a retired Commissioner of Police, who is coordinating efforts in collaboration with security agencies.
“Security remains a top priority for us. Our Commissioner for Security is working closely with relevant agencies to ensure a prompt response to security threats across the state,” he said.
Addressing concerns about the completion of key infrastructure projects, the governor assured that the Kefi flyover and the new state secretariat would be commissioned as scheduled.
“The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is expected to commission these projects by the end of next month. We are working closely with contractors to ensure the deadline is met,” he assured.
Responding to allegations that some government officials are being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Governor Sule dismissed the claims as unverified.
“We are hearing this for the first time. As far as we know, no government official under my administration has been invited by any anti-graft agency. However, we will investigate the claims and provide clarification if necessary,” he said.
Governor Sule maintained that his administration remains committed to transparency, good governance, and service delivery to the people of Nasarawa State.
