Mr. Ahemba noted that the government’s support would not be a one-time intervention but a sustained effort to assist journalists in need. “This visit is not just a show of sympathy; it is a testament to the governor’s commitment to stand by you through thick and thin,” he added.
The Governor’s representative also praised the journalists for their dedication to the profession, despite the challenges they face. He urged them to remain steadfast and committed to their work, assuring them that the government recognizes and appreciates their contributions.
In his remarks, the NUJ Chairman, Mr. Salihu Alkali, expressed gratitude to the governor for his continuous support of journalists in the state. He emphasized the importance of such gestures in boosting the morale of media practitioners. “Your administration has consistently shown that it values the role of the press, and this visit is another proof of that commitment,” Alkali stated.
Mr. Alkali also called on other well-meaning individuals and organizations to emulate the governor’s example by supporting journalists, especially those dealing with health challenges. “We appeal to the public and private sectors to join hands in ensuring that journalists who serve society selflessly are not left to fend for themselves in times of need,” he added.
Responding on behalf of the ailing journalists, Mr. Cheke Emmanuel expressed deep appreciation for the visit and the governor’s support. He described the gesture as a source of encouragement, noting that it would aid their recovery. “This visit has rekindled our hope and strengthened our resolve to continue serving the people through our work,” Emmanuel said.
