Governor Hyacinth Alia has signed into law, the Benue State Electricity Law, 2026.
The Governor, who performed the ceremony on Monday, in Government House, Makurdi said the law is expected to have several positive impacts on the people and economy of Benue State.
According to him, the law will improved power supply as it will create a legal framework for increased electricity generation, transmission, and distribution within the state, leading to more reliable and stable power supply for homes, businesses, schools, and hospitals.
He also said improved electricity will attract investors, encourage the establishment of industries and businesses, and create employment opportunities for thousands of Benue residents, particularly youths.

While also commenting on reduced cost of foing business, Governor Alia said businesses will spend less on generators, fuel, and alternative power sources thereby lowering production costs, increase profitability, and make locally produced goods more competitive.
He also said the law provides mechanisms for enforcing consumer rights, ensuring fair billing practices, improved service delivery, quicker resolution of complaints, and accountability from electricity providers.
He also noted that communities that currently lack access to electricity can benefit from expanded power infrastructure, improving healthcare services, education, agricultural processing, security, and overall living standards across the state.
Alia said “the law will help deliver more reliable electricity, stimulate economic development, protect consumers, create jobs, and improve the quality of life for residents across Benue State, positioning the state for greater industrialization and sustainable growth.”
