A sweeping political shake-up has hit the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Gombe state as 11 ward chairmen of the party in Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area formally resigned their positions and defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The coordinated defection, formalised in separate letters dated February 22, 2026, signal a sweeping grassroots shift within the local political architecture. Each of the ward chairmen cited “careful consideration” in relinquishing both party membership and leadership responsibilities, requesting that their names be removed from PDP registers at ward and local government levels with immediate effect.

Among those who tendered resignation letters are Faisal Abdullahi (Kwadom/Liji/Kurba Ward), Umaru Adamu Wuro Tale (Kanawa/Jari Ward), Shuaibu Mamman (Deba Ward), Muhammed So (Gwani/Shinga/Wade Ward), Salisu Umaru Maikaho (Jagali North Ward), Jungudo Laleko (Zambuk/Kwali Ward), Muhammed Alhaji Sule (Lubo/Difa/Kinafa Ward), Adamu Musa (Kuri/Lano/Lambam Ward), Aminu Saidu Sulaiman (Jagali South Ward), and Adamu Dan Mai Shinkafa (Nono Kunuwal Wuro Birdeka Ward), alongside their respective executives.

The letters uniformly emphasised immediate withdrawal from all party activities and an end to any authority to represent the PDP in official or unofficial capacities.

While none of the chairmen detailed specific grievances, the synchronised action underscores a strategic and collective repositioning ahead of 2027 political engagement.

Reacting to the development, the member representing Yamaltu/Deba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Inuwa Garba, described the defections as a demonstration of solidarity and confidence in his leadership.

Garba, who recently resigned from the PDP to join the APC, said the ward executives’ decision reflects a shared commitment to the constituency’s progress.

According to him, the move represents a unified front aimed at strengthening representation and accelerating development outcomes for the people. He commended the former PDP ward leaders for what he termed their loyalty and courage, assuring constituents that their support would translate into effective service delivery and tangible democratic dividends.
