Renowned political economist, Professor Pat Utomi has recounted how he cheated death 35 years ago after doctors at Boromeo Hospital in Onitsha declared him lifeless following a ghastly car accident.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, Utomi said he was rushed to the hospital after an accident near Asaba that claimed the life of his driver.
In a previous interview, he disclosed that the incident occurred on July 12, 1991.
“35 years ago, doctors at Boromeo Hospital in Onitsha told the Chief of Surgery that they had lost me. No pulse. No breathing,” he recounted.
But according to him, the surgeon refused to give up.
“He insisted on fighting on, determined to at least ‘fulfill all righteousness,” he added.
Utomi said against all expectations, he was found alive and was immediately rushed into surgery to stop internal bleeding.
Looking back, the former presidential candidate said July has remained a month of gratitude for his family.

“July will always be a month of non-stop thanksgiving in my family,” he noted.
He also recalled surviving another brush with death years later during the 7/7 terrorist attacks on London’s transport system in 2005.
On July 7, 2005, London was hiy by a series of coordinated suicide bombings targeting the city’s public transport during rush hour.
Within 50 minutes, four bombs exploded: three on London Underground trains and one on a double-decker bus.
52 civilians and four attackers were killed and 700 injured in the attacks.
For Utomi, both experiences point to one lesson.
“Looking back at it all, one thing is certain: if God is with you, you have everything. Gratitude to my Maker,” the septuagenerian said.
