The Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has condemned the attack on the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi’s convoy by hoodlums on Makurdi – Gboko highway while traveling to Yelwata in Guma Local Government Area, Benue State to visit families affected by the June 2025 killings.
IPAC National Publicity Secretary, Egbeola Martins, in a statement yesterday, denounced what it termed “political intolerance” against Obi and former governor of Anambra State.
Martins argued that restricting a citizen from entering a state is a flagrant violation of the 1999 Constitution as amended, which guarantees the right to freedom of movement.
According to him, Benue State is already bleeding over constant terrorists’ attacks, adding that sponsoring youths to block and attack Obi’s convoy was a misplaced aggression and height of rascality.
He commended the police for arresting 46 suspects involved in this lawlessness and urged them to thoroughly probe the incident to ascertain the remote and immediate causes, identify all the perpetrators and their sponsors to face justice.
In conclusion, he said as an umbrella body of all registered political parties in Nigeria, IPAC is committed to democratic participation of all Nigerians “as we strive to build a strong, united, prosperous, inclusive and just democratic society.”
