Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has presented a proposal for a budget of N207,750,200,000 billion to the state assembly for approval. According to the Governor the proposal, which is for the year 2024, will prioritise projects that are aimed at developing critical infrastructures, enhancing healthcare, and improving the quality of education as well as other services in the state.

Speaking during the budget presentation at the state house of assembly on Monday in Gombe, the governor stated that the proposed budget is carefully crafted to address the critical needs of the state and to facilitate qualitative growth and development in various sectors of the state’s economy. He also stated that the budget proposal will place emphasis on creating an enabling environment for business and the private sector to thrive.

According to him, the budget proposal is made up of N87.25 billion for recurrent expenditures, while N120.5 billion is allotted for capital expenditures. The capital expenditures will focus on priority sectors such as trade, industry and tourism, water resources, security, education, healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure development.

“The 2024 budget, the first in my second term of four years, is coming at a time of great uncertainties and challenges, both locally and globally. Therefore, the 2024 budget is crafted with a keen understanding of local, national, and global economic realities in order to develop and implement policies and programs that are strategic, forward-looking and people-oriented,” the governor stated.

While appreciating the Speaker and other members of the state house of assembly for working in support of his administration the Governor said, “The 2024 budget proposal tagged Budget of Continuity and Consolidation is in line with our desire to build on our first-term achievements and consolidate on past gains. I call on the State House of Assembly to scrutinise this budget and provide constructive insights that will enrich the document and enhance its impacts on the lives and livelihoods of our people”.

He called on stakeholders in the state to collaborate and work for the realisation of the common objectives and aspirations of his administration. He said, “Together, we shall build a Gombe State that is all-inclusive, prosperous, resilient, and forward-looking.”
