A member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Board of Trustees (BoT) in Anambra State, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, has condemned the Fulani herdsmen’s killings across the nation.
He also said recent killings in Nimbo is one attack too many.
Ezeonwuka, who is also the Ogirisi Igbo, said “the time has come for the Federal Government to take the matter very serious. This is human life we are talking about, not chickens and goats.
These people just kill at will. The menace and manner they carry out these killings have gone out of control and this is affecting the rest of Nigeria and Nigerians.
“At this point, it has come to a critical position and this nonsense must stop. These nomadic elements are pure illiterates who do not know what human life is all about. We should get one thing straight and, that is, the North nor President Muhammadu Buhari, as some think, directed the killings…”
He urged the Federal Government to arrest and jail the owners of the cows, who, by the way, are not paying taxes and added that even if grazing fields are established, “these people will not respect it as they enjoy invading people’s farmlands.
“It’s high time they made to pay for the deaths and destruction of farmlands. Nigeria is a country with laws and they should also obey the law. They are not above the law,” he noted.
Ezeonwuka also called on federal lawmakers to speed up passage of a bill which will establish grazing grounds across the Federation. “Cow business is not a federal job, it is purely private and should not be allowed to interfere with the normal lives of ordinary Nigerians, whether in the North or South.
They should be held responsible for killings and destruction of farmlands and be made to face the law and pay adequate compensations to victims.
“This harassment and intimidation must stop before they turn Nigeria into a bloody zone,” he said.
Meanwhile, a pan-Igbo youth group, Njemigbo has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to fish out perpetrators of the attack in Nimbo.
National Coordinator of the group, Mr. Pascal EgoIgbo, who briefed newsmen yesterday in Owerri, Imo State said “Njemigbo Movement Worldwide wants to make it clear that, if the Federal Government cannot guarantee our security, we will definitely secure ourselves. We are giving the Federal Government 7 days ultimatum to arrest the perpetrators or else…”
