The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has been honoured with an award in recognition of his sustained commitment to road safety advocacy, public enlightenment and relentless efforts to reduce road traffic crashes and promote safer highways across Nigeria despite numerous operational challenges.
The award was presented by the management of City Business News Online during the organisation’s 10th anniversary celebration held in Lagos on Thursday, June 25, 2026.
The event, which brought together key stakeholders from the maritime, logistics, transport, energy, banking and capital market sectors, celebrated a decade of impactful business journalism and industry reporting, while recognising institutions and individuals that have made significant contributions to national development.
Presenting the award on behalf of the organisers, Motoring Editor of The Sun Newspaper, Moses Akaigwe, commended the FRSC for its consistency in promoting road safety awareness, enforcing traffic regulations, and implementing initiatives aimed at reducing fatalities and injuries on Nigerian roads.
Over the years, the Corps has intensified public enlightenment campaigns, strengthened collaboration with transport operators and other stakeholders, and deployed technology-driven solutions to improve traffic management and road safety compliance across the country.
Under the leadership of the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, the FRSC has continued to pursue reforms aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, improving emergency response services, and reducing road crashes nationwide.
In recent months, the Corps has expanded its nationwide sensitisation programmes targeting commercial drivers, fleet operators, motorcyclists, and other road users.
The campaigns have focused on speeding, dangerous driving, overloading, drunk driving, and the use of seat belts and child restraints.
Receiving the award on behalf of the Corps Marshal, the Zonal Commanding Officer of the FRSC, Assistant Corps Marshal Matthew Olonisaye, emphasised the need to always abide by road safety regulations.
