FirstBank of Nigeria Limited, sponsors of the annual Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship, has pledged its continuous support and sponsorship of the World Amateur Golf Recognition (WAGR) recognised tournament.
Speaking at this year’s pre-tournament briefing at the golf section of Ikoyi Club 1938 on Thursday, Olusegun Alebiosu, Executive Director, Chief Risk Officer of FirstBank, who represented Adesola Kazeem Adeduntan; Chief Executive Officer, FirstBank, said the continuous sponsorship of Lagos Open is a proof of the bank’s commitment to the development of talents across all its legacy sports.
“Over the years, FirstBank has consistently demonstrated its commitment to the development of sporting talents in Nigeria, as part of our legacy sports initiatives which includes Golf, Polo, Basketball, Football and Tennis among others, he said.
To make this year’s edition better, the organisers also sought the backing of Singleton and Coscharis Motors, which stake one of its brands as part of its partnership.
As part of its Strategic Partnership, Coscharis Motors is also sponsoring a Hole-In-One competition on a specific hole. Any one that gets a hole-in-one will win a Ford Edge Mid SUV 2022 edition, said Abiona Babarinde, General Manager, Marketing &Corporate Communications, Coscharis Group.
Meanwhile, the 62nd in the series of the competition will tee off on Thursday, November 16 with Corporate Golf Challenge for Charity. Charity golf, Alebiosu explained further, is the bank’s way of giving back to society.
Last year, the sum of some N10m raised was shared between Pacelli School for the Blind and Down Syndrome Foundation Nigeria.
Friday, November 17 will see qualified amateurs take their turn on the course in the race that will decide where the events trophy would be heading at the end of day. The low handicap golfer will return on Saturday in continuation of their quest for honour.
Sunday, November 19 is the grand finale. The day will also see former Lagos Open Champion winners take turns on the course for their 18-holes round. The former champions would be playing for the sum of N4 million. Expected to also compete in this category is Kenya’s Samwuel Njoroge.
The FirstBank Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship is now one of the international golf events where all amateur golfers worldwide can participate and amass points to aid their WAGR rankings.
