Adamawa State Governor, Umaru Fintiri, has called for the establishment of state police as the most effective solution to Nigeria’s growing insecurity.
Speaking on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily, Fintiri said the creation of state police would provide the country with sufficient armed personnel to secure ungoverned and vulnerable areas.
“It is to allow the states to have state police so that we can have sufficient armed men that we can send to go and take care of these ungoverned spaces,” he explained.

“Of course, for now, that is the only answer. We can’t ask that we have a private army, but we can have the state police, which, to me, if properly motivated and equipped, can cover those areas.”
Fintiri emphasized that state police would complement the federal security architecture, addressing gaps in regions where current forces are overstretched.
The governor stressed that such a system, if well-resourced and effectively managed, could significantly reduce insecurity in Nigeria.
The remarks come amid the recent Boko Haram attack in Adamawa, where 18 people were reportedly killed and some were injured.
