Film Lab Africa Phase Two has officially entered production following a matchmaking event hosted by the British Council in Lagos on May 8, 2026.
The event brought together selected writers, creative producers, mentors, and industry stakeholders, resulting in the pairing of seven writers with seven producers to begin work on seven anthology pilot episodes.
Delivered in partnership with EbonyLife Creative Academy and Iconic Steps UK, Film Lab Africa is an accelerator programme aimed at strengthening Africa’s film and television industry by providing emerging creatives with training, mentorship, industry networks, and market access.
The programme’s second phase has guided participants through script development, filmmaking training, and collaborative residency sessions designed to prepare projects for production.
British Council Country Director for Nigeria, Donna McGowan, joined mentors and facilitators at the event, reaffirming the organisation’s commitment to supporting Africa’s creative sector through skills development and international collaboration.
As filming begins, participants will receive mentorship from established industry professionals and gain hands-on experience in professional production environments.
Film Lab Africa will also continue its audience engagement activities, with its next industry gathering, Creative Hustle Abuja and Film Club Abuja, scheduled for June 18, 2026.
The programme will conclude with the production of seven anthology pilot episodes, furthering its mission to support and showcase emerging African storytellers.
