The Kano-Jigawa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has announced the collection of N88, 925,099,742.70 in revenue from January to date.
The Comptroller, U. U Adamu disclosed this during a press conference at Bompai headquarters of the Command in Kano.
He explained that the figure comprised N63, 078,655,523.44 earlier collected in the first and second quarters of the year and N25.85 billion generated from July to date.
He noted that the Command generated a total of N14 billion in July, adding that the amount represented the highest monthly collection of the Command in the state.
Adamu also highlighted significant anti-smuggling activities, saying they intercepted and seized prohibited, restricted, and controlled items.
He said some of these items included 1,491 cartons of foreign spaghetti with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N38, 740,131.00; 2,928 packs of foreign macaroni with a DPV of N280, 734,079.00 and 35 bags of foreign smuggled parboiled rice with a DPV of N8, 143,379.00 among others.
He further announced the arrest of eight suspects, who diverted truck heads; seven smuggled vehicles of different brands and 712,690 tablets of unregistered pharmaceutical products.
He stressed that the pharmaceutical items have been handed over to NAFDAC for further action.
He also said that the three suspects have been arrested in connection with wildlife trafficking, adding that the Command intercepted 48 endangered wildlife species, comprising 15 primate- chimpanzees, gorillas, and bush babies- four wild cats; two albino crocodiles and honey badgers.
The comptroller insisted that compliance remained the best way to do business in the state without unnecessary interruptions, advising those engaged in, or contemplating using illicit channels to bring in goods to reconsider their moves.
