Nollywood actress Ese Idia has joined the cast of The New Husbands of Lagos, where she portrays Omoye, the wife of Victor, one of the series’ central characters.
Idia, who said she watched Husbands of Lagos years ago, described joining the new production as an exciting experience, particularly the audition process, which she regarded as a rewarding challenge.
Speaking about her character, the actress said playing Omoye required extensive character development to understand the woman beyond her roles as a wife and mother.
“Omoye was a devoted wife and mother who hid herself while building and keeping her home. She was a strong woman. I had to do a lot of character development to be able to enter into Omoye, and as she grew, I grew with her,” Idia said.
She added that the character’s emotional evolution provided an opportunity to explore different dimensions of her performance.
The role further showcases Idia’s versatility, following appearances in productions such as In the Right Place and Fortress of Faith.
According to her, she is drawn to roles that challenge her to step outside familiar territory and explore diverse emotional experiences.
“Omoye allowed me to explore different emotional layers and respond to the changes in her journey. That is what versatility means to me as an actress — being able to inhabit different characters and give each of them a distinct emotional identity,” she said.
Idia stars alongside Ernest Obi, Linc Edochie, Lolade Okusanya, Tersy Akpata, Maryann Apollo and Jay Franklyn Jituboh, among others.
Desmond Elliot and Reuben Reng direct the series, while Mary Remmy Njoku serves as executive producer.
