The Federal Government has approved three critical policies aimed at transforming the Federal Civil Service, enhancing productivity and boosting service delivery across Nigeria.

The move was ratified during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu, according to a statement by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Office of the Head of Service of the Federation, Eno Olotu.

The approved policies include the Rewards and Recognition Policy, the Incentive and Consequence Management Policy and the Civil Service Mentoring Policy.

These initiatives are designed to foster a performance-driven culture, improve talent development and strengthen accountability within the Civil Service.

Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Didi Walson-Jack, described the policies as “pivotal to staff welfare and the enhanced value proposition of civil servants,” aligning with the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021–2025 and the 2021 Public Service Rules.

She applauded President Tinubu’s dedication to cultivating an efficient, productive, incorruptible and citizen-centric civil service culture, saying, “This approval demonstrates the government’s commitment to valuing our public servants, rewarding excellence and systematically nurturing the next generation of leaders.”

The Rewards and Recognition Policy intends to create a comprehensive framework that motivates staff by attracting, retaining and developing top talent, while promoting innovation and continuous improvement. Meanwhile, the Incentive and Consequence Management Policy seeks to institute a transparent system that rewards high performers and addresses underperformance fairly and constructively.

On the Civil Service Mentoring Policy, Walson-Jack noted, “This is a strategic investment in future leadership. It will bridge critical experience gaps, ensure the transfer of institutional knowledge and preserve the legacy and values that define our service.”

She added: “The President’s approval is more than an administrative milestone; it is the foundation of a modern, agile and empowered civil service. Our civil servants will be recognised, excellence rewarded and their growth invested in.”

Walson-Jack concluded by reaffirming her Office’s commitment to building “a world-class service that meets the aspirations of Nigerians and drives the nation’s progress.
