National Director, Corporate Affairs of the Nigerian Legion, Ms Grace Morenike Henry, says she places high priority on the welfare of ex-servicemen and striving to empower them including the victims’ widows, widowers and orphans of the fallen heroes’ families  who have served  the country.

She said: “My mission to is to look after the welfare of the veteran ex-service men and repackage the Nigeria Legion and take them to the next level.  I was called from Canada in 2020 to serve in the Nigerian Legion being an ex-service woman myself. I have been seeking assistance with the support of the National Chairman, Major General A.M. Jibril (retd). We are going about the legion offices  to tackle challenges facing ex-service men and women.

“We promote comradeship by providing hotel accommodation for ex-servicemen perceived homeless. We have assisted ex-servicemen in securing job and providing welfare needs for their dependants including widows and orphans.

“We have been soliciting for funds through the sale of emblems during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration and other activities like Bazaar. We engage in different activities capable of ensuring that the ex-military personnel, their dependants and those of the fallen heroes don’t fall victim or become nuisances in their communities.

“I have organised seminars to entrench participation of more ex-servicemen in the activities of the Nigerian Legion. The relationship between the legion and relevant government agencies, corporate bodies and private individuals are capable of assisting the legion in performing its functions as prescribed in the Legion Act.

“Registration of ex-servicemen has increased appreciably. This is due to the on going collation. Already, we have registered 35,000 ex-servicemen. We are providing corporate security services through the Corps of Commissionaires.”
