The law firm of former Attorney General of Imo State and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chukwuma-Machukwu Ume has restored joy to the life of an amputee Mr. Uzoma Offor by providing artificial legs to him worth N2 million.
An elated Offor who could not hide his joy said the two artificial legs fittings will make him walk fully erect after eight gruesome years of crawling and leaping with walking sticks as a support.
The emotional ceremony which took place at the Abuja office of the law firm was witnessed by staff,b friends and family members of the beneficiary.
Offor, a victim of the deadly diabetes told the audience that what kept him going through those harrowing years was his strong faith in God that all is not lost until death beckons.
Mr. Uzoma Offor, a six footer young man with four Children and a wife had his right leg amputated seven years ago in an attempt to safe his life from a deadly diabetes infection.
But little did he knew that his left leg would suffer same fate last year and It took the grace of God to preserve him alive after it was discovered the left leg was badly infected. So he amputated his left leg in order to remain a live , his town man said.
Expressing his gratitude, Offor said that only God can reward his benefactor who has not only facilitated his walking fully erect today, but had opened a pottery farm for him as a means of earning a likelihood.
“I thank Ume, SAN, and pray God to continue to bless and guide him and family.”
Offor said he will continue to remember with thanks the Son of the owner of Emma plaza who safe his life by rushing him to the hospital when the sickness struck him down some years ago.
Offor advised diabetic patients to heel advices of doctors”if they asked you to amputee legs or infected parts of body , don’t waste time”. According to him, “amputation is not the end of life, in fact any sickness you are suffering don’t lose hope, ” he said.
Chukwuma-Machukwu Ume, SAN, in his remark, while presenting the artificial legs to Uzoma Offor said he had watched Offor’s postings in social media over the years and saw that the man had unflinching courage and determination.
He also recalled that the good service Uzoma’s father, Offor rendered to Umuishim community. He said that as a toddler Uzoma’s father Offor single handedly mobile youths and they constructed five roads in Umuishim Akpulu in Ideato North Imo State that upon up the community to development.
Ume said that he is elated , in line with Social Responsibility and being a Pencil in the Hands of God, in bearing the cost of offering him artificial legs. He pledged to further support Offor’s pottery farm with the sum of two hundred naira.
