Xabi Alonso is set to give Super Eagles striker, Victor Boniface his first start after he returned from injury by unleashing against West Ham United in tonight’s UEFA Europa League quarterfinal game at the BayArena.
Boniface had been out for almost four months after he sustained an adductor injury during Nigeria’s preparatory camp for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates and had to undergo a surgery.
After a successful surgery and rigorous rehabilitation, the 23-year-old striker made his return last week, playing for a quarter of an hour in the DFB Pokal win against Fortuna Dusseldorf at the BayArena.
While speaking on his squad on Wednesday afternoon: “Just Adam Hlozek is injured from the weekend. Matej will play in goal. Boniface is fully fit to play, so he could be used from the start tonight.”
“We know what West Ham can do. They have experience in Europe, last season they were Champions of the Conference League. We want to go further and starting tonight and then next week in London we have to play our own game. We are ready.”
