Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Umo Eno, has delivered 1,304.722 kilometres of roads, translating into 107 roads and 40 bridges, spread across the state’s three senatorial districts within three years of his administration.

The feat was contained in a statement by the Registrar of the Nigeria Institute of Social Media Analysts (NISMA), Maryam Hamza, following an inspection tour of projects in Akwa Ibom State.

According to the Institute, 11 of the projects are dual carriageways, spanning a combined distance of 611.533 kilometres and incorporating 26 bridges.

“These are not mere fabricated figures but verifiable projects. We have pictures and videos to substantiate our findings,” Hamza said.

She explained that Governor Eno inherited and completed 41 road projects, covering 341.359 kilometres, including 14 bridges.

In addition, the Akwa Ibom State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (AKS-RAAMP) has facilitated the construction of 43 road projects with a combined length of 351.83 kilometres under the current administration.

Hamza noted that the Institute was impressed by the governor’s commitment to infrastructure development, particularly in rural communities across the state.

“Having observed the developmental challenges and poor infrastructure in many states and communities across Nigeria, we are encouraged that a leader has chosen to change the narrative through sincerity, commitment and practical governance beyond political rhetoric,” she stated.

She further observed that a significant portion of the projects are located in rural areas, a development she said had helped reduce rural-urban migration by providing residents with access to essential infrastructure and social amenities comparable to those available in urban centres.

According to her, the improved road network had also boosted agricultural activities by enabling farmers to access their farms more easily and transport produce to markets without difficulty.

“This has enhanced the evacuation of farm produce and helped farmers sell their goods in fresher condition and at more competitive prices,” she added.

The Institute reiterated its commitment to objective assessments of governance and public infrastructure, stressing that it has consistently held governments accountable where they fail to meet the expectations of the people.

“Over the years, we have observed that many governments have fallen short of their responsibilities to the masses and we have never hesitated to speak against such shortcomings,” Dr. Hamza added.
