Though Ojo turned 70 on April 30, the celebration was postponed until recently, when family, friends and church members gathered in Abeokuta, capital of Ogun State, to honour him with a spectacular soiree.

The event was a joyful reunion, bringing together family, colleagues and friends, including his cherished schoolmates — most notably his Baptist High School, Jos (BHS Class of 1972), classmates — many of whom had known him for over 50 years.

A graduate of chemical engineering from the University of Lagos, Ojo’s professional journey began in 1978 as a production engineer at NASCO Group in Jos. Over 21 years, he rose steadily, culminating in his appointment as general manager at Industrial Project (IPI), Abeokuta, in 1996.

Reflecting on his career, Ojo humbly acknowledged: “Through it all, I experienced growth and development, elevation and international exposure. To be candid, God’s faithfulness was very evident in my career, as His mercy was generously given while I was largely unfaithful.” He also shared a poignant testimony of spiritual renewal, describing how he returned to God after a difficult period, finding restoration and strength.

The platinum jubilee celebration began with a worship service led by the Baptist Church, Ibara, Abeokuta. Reverend Dr. Timothy Olatunbosun delivered a moving sermon, and members of the Soldier of Christ Society offered tributes that highlighted Ojo’s contributions as treasurer, building committee chairman and vice president.

“Engr. Ojo is known for his accountability and excellence in any task,” said a representative of the society. “His wisdom during our monthly meetings has always been invaluable. We salute his steadfastness and also that of his devoted wife and children.”

His elder sister, Mrs. Atilade Olubamidele, described him as the present head of the family. She extolled his caring and loving attributes through  the years. “You’ve always been our head,” she declared, offering a heartfelt prayer: “As you mark 70, may lines continue to fall for you in pleasant places.”

One of the most touching tributes came from his son, who resides in the United Kingdom. In a message sent across continents, he described his father as “the best thing to ever happen” to him. “God carefully moulded you to be my dad. I couldn’t have asked for better — you’re perfect for me and for our family.”

Among the distinguished guests was Chief Olusola Adeoye, Osupori of Owu Kingdom, who praised Ojo’s professionalism, diplomacy and sound judgement, wishing him many more years of health and happiness.

The event’s emotional peak came when his classmates from BHS Jos shared their memories. “We first met in January 1968 — 57 years ago,” one said. “He was always calm and unassuming. We’ve shared many milestones and today we share in his joy.”

The life of Engr. Adediran Ojo is a story of steady rise, quiet influence, unwavering faith and a legacy of humility and service. At 70, he continues to inspire, not just by what he’s achieved but also by who he has become: a man moulded by trials, shaped by grace and driven by purpose.
